Reclaim your time….., time…., time.
Lisa Dieker:Welcome to AI Advocates. I'm Lisa Dieker.
Maggie Mosher:And I'm Maggie Mosher.
Lisa Dieker:And we're going to talk about saving time and being really cool, right? Maggie.
Maggie Mosher:Oh Yeah.
Lisa Dieker:Okay, so, so tonight or today, or whatever time it is, when you're listening to us, we're going to be talking about videos. And if you didn't know the research, especially for the population, Maggie and I tend to do a lot of work with kids with disabilities, social stories and videos have a really rich research base. And I know, Maggie, you've been playing with some AI generated videos, and I'm curious what you want to recommend. And let's just talk first about one and then another.
Maggie Mosher:Yeah. Well, what I like about videos, and the evidence base behind them is you can use them as a video modeling. You can use them as someone's recording you, and you look at it, you're recording yourself. You're recording someone else. So with the different AI pieces, not only can I record a video, but I can take words, anything I've typed, and turn it into a video for free. And one of my favorite places to do that is I don't even have to have the words. I can just take a concept.
Lisa Dieker:Okay.
Maggie Mosher:And put it into the ChatGPT and have it create just like we used to do with images. Have it create a video.
Lisa Dieker:Okay. And the video, could it include me? How would I go about doing that?
Maggie Mosher:Yeah. So the way, based on ChatGPT, you go into it and you actually choose, AI Video by Descript.
Lisa Dieker:Okay.
Maggie Mosher:And I'd write in exactly what I want. I can choose.
Lisa Dieker:Say that one more time.
Maggie Mosher:Yeah, AI Video by Descript.
Lisa Dieker:Can you spell descript? Just in case.
Maggie Mosher:D-E-C-R. D-E-S-C-R-I-P-T
Lisa Dieker:Descript. Yeah, got it. Okay. So, so you go into ChatGPT, you go to Descript and then.
Maggie Mosher:And then in ChatGPT, just type in anything. You can type in, I want a video on how to make a cheeseburger.
Lisa Dieker:Okay
Maggie Mosher:You can type in, I want an image. You can even just start with a picture. I want an image of a dog that is this big and has white hair.
Lisa Dieker:Got it.
Maggie Mosher:But for students like what I did for our little video, I said, I want a video about two special education professors who would like to help explain AI in an easy-to-use, friendly manner. And that's all I put in. And then I described what we look like.
Lisa Dieker:Okay.
Maggie Mosher:I said, okay, I have brown hair to this height. I'm about this age. And then I said the same thing about you. And put it in and said, just clicked the go button, and it pulls up a picture, and then it asks you, is this pretty accurate to what you're looking for?
Lisa Dieker:Got it.
Maggie Mosher:And then it asks you questions, and you just answer those questions, and by the third or fourth time, it had a perfect image. And then everything I wanted to say about us, I just typed that in, and it made a video. I made an entire video, and I actually didn't have the first one I sent you. You have to change much. It was just the video, but it did have a few things like, I was a little frustrated that it doesn't have music. You know, when you have a video, some songs.
Lisa Dieker:Yeah.
Maggie Mosher:But it has Descript allows you to do up to five every day, free songs, free images. And I could take all images from my computer and put them in so I could put my own students in the video just by grabbing.
Lisa Dieker:With parent permission.
Maggie Mosher:With parent permission. But their favorite characters?
Lisa Dieker:Yeah.
Maggie Mosher:So like Winnie the Pooh was one of my students, favorite characters. I just pulled in Winnie the Pooh and have him teach this.
Lisa Dieker:Well and I'm going to give a couple of really cool examples I have seen in school. So there was a young man going from middle school to elementary to middle school, and he had his friend the dinosaur. And of course, he wasn't allowed to bring his friend the dinosaur to middle school, or they didn't think it was appropriate, so they made video recordings of the dinosaur telling him his schedule. And so every time he went to class and he didn't want to go, the next he'd say, dinosaur, where do I go? And the dinosaur. So again, that's an example, but if you really look at the social story research, it's really powerful for kids who don't know how to go to the bathroom, don't know how to open their locker, don't know how to put their backpack on, don't know how to put their snowshoes on, if you live in somewhere in the winter or don't understand the rules for a fire alarm. So video modeling is really powerful, and it's great that there's free now I know if we want to go like higher end, and you got money, so now you have money, but no time, this would be the way to go. And I think what we saw, $20 a month gets you.
Maggie Mosher:Five sections a certain hour.
Lisa Dieker:Got it. So $200 a month will get you a lot. We're not recommending that one. But again, if you really.
Maggie Mosher:But that's for Sora, Descript is free.
Lisa Dieker:Yeah, so tell but, but talk about Sora a little bit to the group.
Maggie Mosher:So Sora, what I like about it, the only part I play with, because I don't have a subscription, is.
Lisa Dieker:And Sora lives in?
Maggie Mosher:Sora actually is its own company.
Lisa Dieker:Yes.
Maggie Mosher:But it can live in GPT.
Lisa Dieker:Right.
Maggie Mosher:So you can choose which one you want. What I like about Sora, that's free. I don't know about the paid part, because I don't have a paid subscription, but the free part is I can choose images. I can put in images as many as I want. They can have images in it, and then I can, based on those images, decide what I want to do with them. And I can pull your images and make it into a quick clip. I can pull their images and make it into a quick clip. And that's free.
Lisa Dieker:Yeah.
Maggie Mosher:That part is free.
Lisa Dieker:So that and that's the good news. There's so many things coming out, and we just really wanted, in this podcast, to kind of remind you of not only the power of video, but that there are tools and more and more are emerging. Again, it's going to start to be what's real. Who created it? Where did we create it? You can do it on your phone, but if AI will do it for you. It saves.
Maggie Mosher:Time.
Lisa Dieker:And money if you don't have the paid subscription. So again, just to reiterate one more time, the two you'd recommend right now.
Maggie Mosher:Right now, Descript is my favorite, but there's also Sora.
Lisa Dieker:Got it, and again, Sora has a cost involved to get to the back wall. Descript is free, so thanks for joining us, and we look forward to you sending us questions on our podcast, on our on our website, and at both FLITE and Bluesky if you have any questions. So thanks.
